Without any special applications, keeping track of multiple computers, over a network, can be a hard and tedious task. If you are looking for a better solution, to explore and manage a network, you should try NetView. It allows you to scan a network for computers or their resources, store network information and organize hosts in different lists and sub-lists.

NetView is lightweight, so it can be downloaded and installed in no time. The application is free and it works on almost any Windows platform. Its system requirements are not high and you don't have to install any prerequisite tools or make any advanced configurations before launching the application.

You may create one or more host lists on the software's interface and view them on separate tabs. New hosts can be added manually, without too much effort. It is sufficient to specify a host's name and IP address on a small window and type in a username and a password, if you need to. Additional settings can be made on the same window. When you add a new host, you can also enable NETBIOS, activate alerts, specify if the computer uses a dynamic IP and more.

Added hosts can be viewed in a list, with or without details, but you can also view them in a visual plan or map, in which hosts are represented by icons. If you opt for a map view, you will be able to arrange your hosts, connect them with lines, draw areas and more. You can also bring up a rich set of information, for individual hosts, and browse them in Windows Explorer.

The software's built-in network scanner can make it easier to add new hosts. You can scan a specific IP range, select different scan settings, like ping, DNS or ARP, set up TCP and UDP ranges and make many other configurations. It is also possible to specify a number of parallel requests, UDP scan passes, a timeout interval or a script queue. Resources can be scanned in a different section of the interface. Besides targeting IP addresses, you may also set up a search mask or exclude specific hosts.

NetView comes with many more useful features. It provides you with an IP logger, a trace route tool, the possibility of chatting with other users over your network and more. You can also use a terminal function, which includes a good number of options, so you can work in a flexible and comfortable manner.

Pros

Creating host lists is a simple procedure. You can add them manually or scan your network and add the found hosts to a list. The software allows you to scan a host's resources as well. In addition, it provides you with a terminal, an IP logger, a trace route tool and more.

Cons

The interface disappears almost completely, if it's not active. With NetView, your network will be easier to map and manage and you will be able to perform almost any administrative task.
